Budge Dental Clinic

(Fort Sam Houston, TX)

For Budge Dental Clinic, KB was tasked to design and provide all labor, materials, and equipment required to build an addition and renovate the entire building space. To comply with LEED® sustainability efforts that were then recently mandated by the Government, the design effort required KB to include an Indoor Air Quality Management System with Carbon Dioxide Sensors and an HVAC System able to introduce fresh air for a high quality environment within the clinic. A bike rack and staff showers were also provided for those who cycled to work. KB and design partner Ross & Baruzzini, Inc. participated in a site investigation to inspect building conditions, meet with Facility Management, and interview clinic staff. This resulted in a design that took into account the needs of all stakeholders to produce the best end product possible. We also designed and furnished a transition space to enable dental staff to continue serving patients uninterrupted while renovations took place.

The new interior layout included 44 dental treatment rooms complete with all support facilities and infrastructure. The latest design in casework equipment and Dental Chairs was utilized. The dental treatment rooms were built with computerized information and X-ray viewing for more expedited patient care. The layout of two chairs per bay also allowed for greater efficiency in dental treatment. A center console was installed that allowed the X-ray equipment to be shared in adjacent treatment rooms. All hand Wash Sinks within the treatment rooms were provided with toe operated controls. Materials used were friendly to the environment and met or exceeded standards for indoor air quality.

Our onsite project management team received multiple awards for this effort, including a Commander’s Coin, Letter of Commendation from the Corps of Engineers Project Integrator, and an Operational Safety Award from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District.
